Dylan Sampson (RB)

Dynasty Rookie Draft Projection:

Late 2nd - Early 3rd

Strengths:

  1. Elite Speed and Explosiveness: Sampson is one of the fastest players in the 2025 draft class, with a projected 40-yard dash time of 4.35 seconds and in-game speeds clocked at 22-23 mph. His ability to accelerate and hit top speed quickly makes him a home-run threat every time he touches the ball.

  2. Agility and Elusiveness: Sampson’s lateral quickness and ability to change direction are elite. He consistently makes defenders miss in the open field with sharp cuts and jukes, showcasing excellent body control.

  3. Vision and Patience: Sampson demonstrates advanced field vision for a young running back. He has the patience to wait for blocks to develop and the ability to identify running lanes quickly. His vision is particularly effective in zone-blocking schemes, where he can read the flow of the defense and make decisive cuts.

Weaknesses:

  1. Size and Durability Concerns: At 5’11” and 201 pounds, Sampson is slightly undersized for a traditional workhorse running back role in the NFL. While he has shown durability in college, his frame raises concerns about his ability to handle a full workload at the professional level. NFL defenders are bigger, faster, and stronger, which could lead to durability issues over time if he’s asked to take on too many touches.

  2. Pass Protection: Sampson’s pass-blocking ability is a notable weakness. He struggles to consistently pick up blitzes and lacks the strength to hold off larger defenders. This could limit his usage on third downs early in his career, as NFL coaches often prioritize running backs who can protect the quarterback in passing situations.

  3. Receiving Consistency: While Sampson has flashed potential as a pass-catcher, his production in this area has been inconsistent. In 2024, he recorded only 20 receptions for 143 yards, which is underwhelming for a back with his skill set. He’ll need to refine his route running and improve his hands to become a reliable weapon in the passing game at the next level.

NFL Potential:

Dylan Sampson is a high-upside dynasty prospect with the potential to become a fantasy RB2 or better if he lands in the right situation and develops as a pass-catcher.

While his size and pass protection concerns may limit his early usage, his elite speed and explosiveness make him a player worth targeting in the mid-to-late rounds of rookie drafts.

Dynasty managers should view him as a long-term investment with the potential to deliver significant returns in the right system.
