I can almost taste it

Trade talk, 16 articles/videos we loved, and top 5 player insights

Yooo!

I’m writing this intro on Friday night before a quick weekend trip. My home dynasty league is entering its 5th year, and for the 2nd straight year, we held our rookie draft in-person at the Foxwoods resort/casino in CT. Throw in a few rounds of golf, and you can’t ask for a better way to officially transition into the new dynasty season.

Football is so close I can almost taste it.

Giddy up.

The results from last newsletter’s trade poll are in. I asked what you thought of this trade submitted by Jake:

Team A (Rebuilder) receives:

  • Jaxson Dart

  • Cam Ward

  • 2026 1st Round

  • 2027 1st Round

  • 2028 1st Round

Team B (Contender) receives:

  • Joe Burrow

  • Breece Hall

Team A won with 61.54% of the vote.

Here are some additional comments left by the voters from each side:

Team A voters (Rebuilder):

  • “If and when Breece starts losing touches this will be a full-on fleecing.”

  • “In 4pt passing TD, Burrow may or may not match his numbers in previous years, which are unsustainable frankly. Especially with his injury risk. And no one is guaranteeing a Hall bounce back, especially with the potential RBBC in NY. I would take the more versatile picks, especially if predicted to be early. ”

Team B voters (Contender):

  • “Contending team draft picks worth less as those two players will probably keep his team on top ”

  • “Burrow is a stud and will again have to be pass happy because of their sappy defence. ”

Our take:

  • This is how I feel most rebuilder / contender trades should go down. The contender makes an overpay that boosts their starting lineup significantly. The rebuilder stacks a ton of young assets/picks in hopes of hitting on a few of them (or repackaging in another deal). Textbook.

Today’s contestant…

This trade comes in from your fellow sub, Alex. Everyone say, “HI ALEX.”

Team A receives:

  • Saquon Barkley

Team B receives:

  • Baker Mayfield

  • Rhamondre Stevenson

  • 2026 3rd

  • Anthony Richardson's shoulder is reportedly 'okay' after season-ending surgery last year, and he's expected to be ready for the start of training camp.

  • There's a quarterback competition brewing with Daniel Jones, and many believe the Colts' actions suggest they don't fully trust Richardson as the long-term starter.

  • Richardson's fantasy value is highly uncertain; he's going undrafted in most redraft leagues but is a late-round flier in superflex formats due to his rushing upside.

  • The hosts are skeptical of Richardson's ability to hold the job, and recommend targeting Daniel Jones if you're investing in Colts receivers, as Jones is seen as the more reliable passer.

  • David Montgomery benefited from a perfect storm last year: the Lions' league-leading offense, a healthy O-line, and creative play-calling, but several of those factors (loss of OC Ben Johnson, retirement of center Frank Ragnow) are now gone.

  • Montgomery's efficiency was solid, but with Jahmyr Gibbs entering year three and becoming more dominant, Montgomery risks being relegated to a handcuff role rather than a standalone RB2.

  • The host is selling Montgomery at his current price (RB21 in redraft, RB23 in Dynasty), preferring to target younger backs like Brian Robinson Jr. or Isaiah Pacheco, and warning that without a Gibbs injury, Montgomery's ceiling is capped.

  • Hill had a disappointing 2024 season, catching 81 passes for 959 yards and six touchdowns despite playing all 17 games

  • Hill's receiver score of 49 (ESPN Analytics) was the lowest of his career, indicating regression in his ability to separate

  • With Jonnu Smith's departure to Pittsburgh, Hill is expected to reestablish himself as Miami's No. 1 target in 2025

  • Hill's effectiveness as a deep threat in Miami's shift to more short passes will be crucial in determining his third-round draft value

  • Darnell Mooney is being undervalued in dynasty (148th overall on Fantasy Calc, four rounds after Shakir in startups), despite producing 12.1 points per game last year and having a higher average depth of target.

  • Mooney is expected to run more routes than Shakir in 2025, and the Falcons' offense could see increased passing volume with Michael Penix Jr., a high deep-ball rate, low-sack, non-scrambling quarterback.

  • Mooney is seen as the cheapest available wide receiver with a clear path to top-30 production, and the host suggests he can be acquired for a third-round pick and a throw-in, making him a strong value target.

  • LaPorta remains locked in as a mid-to-high TE1 in fantasy

  • Role as Goff's chain-mover and zone-beater will remain vital in the offense

  • Morton's history working with tight ends in layered passing concepts ensures LaPorta will maintain his important role
