Yooo!

Hopefully, most of you have already locked up your playoff spot and aren’t sweating tonight’s game too much.

Wanted to quickly share the results from last Friday’s newsletter poll: “If you had Justin Jefferson, are you starting him over a low-end WR2?”

The results were unanimous, with 86.3% of voters saying they’d start him, so we can all be miserable starting him together.

Here were a few of my favorite comments from the voters:

  • “I laughed at this "I won’t be able to sleep if I start Khalil Shakir over him, he flops, and JJ has a good game." because that's exactly why I'm starting him. Shakir bench, Jefferson rostered.”

  • “Unless I have Christian Watson baby!!!!!”

  • “Always start your studs!!!”

Alright, enough Justin Jefferson cope. Let’s get into the top 5 takeaways from Week 14.

TE - Harold Fannin Jr. (CLE)

  • Harold Fannin Jr. was highlighted as the number one fantasy tight end on the week, and the hosts used advanced grading numbers to underscore how dominant he has been at forcing missed tackles compared to the rest of the position.

  • They cited Pro Football Focus data showing Fannin with 20 forced missed tackles on the season, which is considerably more than Trey McBride at 13, and they described multiple plays where Fannin is juking defenders and making people miss in the open field.

  • One analyst stated that Fannin is the exact type of tight end he would aggressively target in dynasty leagues right now, because his current perceived fantasy value does not yet match his underlying performance profile and tackle breaking ability.

  • The show also connected Fannin to previous late season breakout tight end arcs, referencing the eerie similarity between multiple injuries ahead of Trey McBride last year and hinting that Fannin could follow a similar league winning path in the final month.

  • Our take: We might have a stud in the making. I’ve kept him on my taxi all year in one league where I have Trey McBride, but I’m tempted to activate him for the fantasy playoffs. I love his long-term outlook. What do you think? 👇️

Would you trade a 1st to acquire Fannin?

RB - Jaylen Wright (MIA)

  • Jaylen Wright emerged as a critical backup for the Dolphins after De'Von Achane's potential injury, stepping up with an impressive performance of 24 carries for 107 yards and a touchdown in Week 14, demonstrating his potential value in Mike McDaniel's running back system.

  • Wright has been primarily an insurance policy for Achane this season, but his recent game suggests he could be thrust into an RB2 role with RB1 upside if Achane misses any time, making him a must-add in all fantasy football formats.

  • Prior to Achane's injury, Wright had limited standalone fantasy value, but his ability to produce 16.7 fantasy points and add three targets in the passing game shows his versatility and potential impact as a potential starter.

  • Our take: The news I’ve read on Achane seems positive for his chances of returning next week, but this performance from Wright is one to file away for the future. I’m not betting on him ever having standalone value, but he’s a great handcuff to throw at the bottom of your bench.

QB - Baker Mayfield (TB)

  • Baker Mayfield was paired with Emeka Egbuka as a major Week 14 faller, as the Buccaneers passing game has sputtered while he plays through injuries, leading to depressed output for himself and his receivers.

  • The hosts drew parallels to Baker Mayfield’s final years in Cleveland, explaining that he is once again playing hurt, staying on the field through significant physical issues and likely hurting his own efficiency and accuracy in the process.

  • Tampa Bay’s offense has struggled to get all of its pieces healthy at the same time, with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin each missing stretches and the backfield usage changing as players like Bucky Irving enter the mix, making it hard for Baker Mayfield to settle into a stable rhythm.

  • From a dynasty perspective, the analysts believe Baker Mayfield is a strong offseason buy low target; managers who were skeptical of him from the start are ready to give up during this down stretch, creating potential discounts for a starting quarterback who should retain a significant role if he can get healthy.

  • Our take: The more I read, the more it seems Baker is just playing hurt, and it’s hurting everybody around him from a fantasy standpoint (except maybe Bucky). His poor play is forcing me to decide between Egbuka, Swift, and Fannin for my last flex spot this week — a decision I never thought I’d have to make a month ago.

TE - Ben Sinnott (WAS)

  • Ben Sinnott, a second-round draft pick by the Washington Commanders in 2024, is poised to potentially step into a starting role after Zach Ertz is feared to have torn his ACL.

  • The article identifies Sinnott as the top priority add at the tight end position, highlighting his draft pedigree and the potential for an every-down role in the Commanders' offense.

  • With the potential injury to Ertz, Sinnott represents a high-upside tight end option for fantasy managers looking to secure a starter during the critical playoff weeks.

  • Our take: Sinnott’s path to right now is eerily similar to Trey McBride’s. He was drafted 53rd overall in 2024 (McBride was 55th in 2022). They both started their careers behind Zach Ertz for ~1.5 years. They both got their first real shot because of an Ertz injury. I am not saying Sinnott will be Trey McBride, but there is a real path to TE fantasy relevance here. And right now, he might not even be rostered in your league.

RB - Kyren Williams (LAR)

  • In the Rams' dominant win against the Cardinals, Kyren Williams maintained a solid workload with 15 touches and 97 total yards, including a touchdown, while sharing the backfield with Blake Corum.

  • Williams continues to be a reliable fantasy option, projected as a strong RB2/3 despite the emerging presence of Blake Corum in the Rams' backfield, though managers should temper expectations for upcoming matchups against the Lions and Seahawks.

  • The Rams' run game looked particularly effective in this game, with Williams playing a key role in a balanced offensive attack that thoroughly dominated the Cardinals.

  • Our take: I’m nervous about Kyren’s fantasy playoff matchups. Only 15 touches against these defenses means he’ll probably have to score a TD to hit his weekly projection. You probably are starting him no matter what, but you might need to take a shot at some upside somewhere else in your lineup to offset a potential dud.

That’s all for tonight!

See ya pizza,

Joe
