In the last newsletter, I asked you all: “DRAFT or PASS? Would you take Trey McBride or Brock Bowers in the first two rounds of a redraft PPR league?”

57.8% of you voted for: “PASS”

Best subscriber comments:

  • DRAFT: “McBride finished roughly 5ppg over the TE 2 last year. Biggest advantage over any position. I think either of them could do it this year. I'm all in.”

  • DRAFT: “Bowers for sure. Have and will keep taking him, practically getting WR1 value in your TE spot.”

  • PASS: “I anticipate some regression from McBride this season but remain optimistic about Bowers given the new OC, revamped OL, and lack of playmakers in the offense. Nevertheless, too much value to overlook by reaching for a TE early on. Would prefer to snap an "end of tier" like Warren 2-3 rounds later or wait.”

  • PASS: “Early 3rd, but RB's are flying off the board, so likely going RB/RB to start, then looking for best WR or one of these TE's in Round 3”

Our take: According to Draft Sharks ADP, Bowers is ADP 23 and McBride is 24. The next names up right after them are Jeremiyah Love, Kyren, Rashee, Olave, Lamar, DeVonta, Javonte, Breece, Tee, etc. I think I’d rather have both TE over any of those guys, as uncomfortable as it might be with the roster build.

Alright, now let’s get to some news you might’ve missed.

Ashton Jeanty (RB, LV): (100 mentions last 7 days): His ankle injury has him working off to the side with a trainer, not yet back to full practice, though the Raiders kept only three running backs after cutdowns. Mike Washington Jr.'s strong preseason has analysts saying the plan may shift from a workhorse role toward a 70-30 or 65-35 split.

Brock Bowers (TE, LV): (55 mentions last 7 days): Posted 112 catches for 1,194 yards and five touchdowns on 153 targets as a rookie, then scored seven touchdowns in just eight games after returning from a knee injury. Analysts call him worth taking anywhere in the back half of Round 2.

Bucky Irving (RB, TB): (41 mentions last 7 days): His yards per carry fell from 5.4 to 3.4 last season and his explosive run rate dropped from 35.7% to 13.4%, though his 3.93 yards after contact per attempt had ranked first among backs with 60-plus carries the year before. Analysts are split on whether that was injury, blocking, or real decline.

Chase Brown (RB, CIN): (50 mentions last 7 days): Once Joe Burrow returned to the lineup, Brown averaged 20.6 half-PPR points per game on a 61% snap share. Even with a projected 70-30 snap split with Samaje Perine based on preseason Week 1 usage, analysts still like his value at his current price.

Christian Watson (WR, GB): (86 mentions last 7 days): From Weeks 8 through the end of last season, he averaged 61.1 receiving yards per game and posted a 2.67 yards per route run, with his target share ranging from 18.2% to 23.9%. Analysts say that's strong enough to support a much bigger role now that he's Green Bay's clear WR1.

D'Andre Swift (RB, CHI): (66 mentions last 7 days): His 51.0% rushing success rate ranked fourth among all running backs last season, with top-12 marks in adjusted yards after contact and explosive-play rate, and only six backs took more carries from inside the five-yard line. Analysts say his base-down role was already secure.

Jaxson Dart (QB, NYG): (84 mentions last 7 days): Rushed for 487 yards and nine touchdowns in 12 starts as a rookie, tying Trevor Lawrence for the second-most among quarterbacks, despite topping 200 passing yards in only five of those starts. Analysts say his legs alone are enough to keep him in fantasy starting lineups.
